Patagonia is a town in Santa Cruz County, Arizona, United States. Patagonia has a population of about 1000. Patagonia was formerly a supply center for nearby mines and ranches. It is a tourist destination, retirement community and arts and crafts center. The Nature Conservancy’s Patagonia-Sonoita Creek Preserve is adjacent to the town.
Situated at over 4,000 feet elevation, between the Santa Rita Mountains and the Patagonia Mountains, in the riparian corridor of Sonoita Creek, Patagonia is spectacularly rich in both natural and human assets. Protecting and ‘sustainably’ building upon these unique assets and town character is the distinguishing vision of the community. Town and nearby county residents endeavor to maintain and enrich a symbiotic and sustainable relationship with their magnificent environment. The provision, locally, of jobs and affordable housing, coupled with progressive environmental stewardship are keys to long-term sustainability of the Town.
Birders, fishermen and hikers share the streets with shoppers looking for that perfect and unique gift and everyone revels in the delightful weather.
